Default XP SP3 KEY Install? - 02-20-2010, 09:00 PM

I installed XP sp3 in a mini9 that had linux in it. I used the Dell disc from my other mini. Problem is I have a valid keycode for XP Home, but it never asked me for the keycode during the install. Is it going to disable XP after a month or so, I need to fix this by Monday, because my sister is taking it back with her and she lives about 400 miles away. Looked in there, can't seem to find how to activate my keycode. Any help is appreciated.

you can check by going to MS and validating the OS

link:
http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/def...displaylang=en

the validation box is on the left, there is one for Windows and one for Office...it will install a couple of items then validate your software....you can trust it..its the MS site

My understanding is that the Dell restore CD includes a volume license that does not require activation. So you'll be OK, even though what you've done is not technically allowed by Microsoft's XP license.

That is why I had a valid XP Home key to activate it. Never thought about it being a Dell branded disc, and how the licensing works with it, being that it is an OEM disc. Is there a way to change the key? I looked on the web, all I found was software you had to buy. Certainly different than Vista or 7.
