Default windows xp fresh install - 01-09-2010, 07:18 PM

ok so ive had my mini for a bit over just a year and my warrenty recently expired. my sister is offering to buy me a new computer if i can give my mini to her kids in a couple months, so my problem is that i want to fresh install xp home i copied the xp os disk to a usb drive but i want to know how can i fresh install it and just erase everything on my mini. i dont have a cd/dvd drive. so if anyone knows how to please help me.

i have the 8gb ssd, 1 gb ram from dell.

I was trying on my 10v but kept coming up against looking for file errors and not able top point it to where the file was, doing it via thumbdrive.
If it's only a year old i wouldn't worry about it, just uninstall any programs they won't use, maybe run CCleaner and tweak startup programs to boot faster in msconfig.

I also wanted to clear up some space on the HD because there is hardly any eve though i have taken off all the extra program that they wont use and im running with less than a gb of space left so i just want to free up as much space as possible.

ps me getting a new computer is only a pssibility and if it doesnt happen i want to clear this computer out. or fresh install win 7.

i tried to install ubuntu, but i guess i botched it up..

i hve tried to install window back, using usb...but theres a msg afer installation, saying
"windows could not start because of a computer disk hardware configuration problem"

please help me as all of my documents are in my mini9 ....purely for offices most essential documents and of course for emailling.

before u say anything, yes..i was a fool of me to try and install ubuntu..


mini 9, winxp, 2gb RAM

Boot the XP disc and at the first screen it asks you to do something shift, fn+f10. At the cmd prompt typ cd / to get to root directory should see C:\ in cmd. Type diskpart hit enter you'll see an dos application open up and it will show your partitions. Choose the larger one if there's a recovery partition and choose format. This will wipe that partition clean for a fresh install.

XP doesn't have diskpart, it's Vista and 7.

He is correct XP DOES have diskpart
