Default Camera Icon - 12-18-2008, 05:39 PM

On my desktop, I have an ugly webcam icon (also the webcam utility on my explorer windows, next to Control Panel)

Who to get rid of those without disabling the webcam?

On the desktop just right click and delete. It will only delete the shortcut and not the program itself.

Dude, please, don't underestimate me. There's no way to do it like you said. Right click = Open, Explore, Get Pictures, Create Shortcut, Rename and Properties.

What I did was to disable the camera with the device manager, to get rid of that icon.

If I'm not mistaken there is a setting within the webcam program that allows you to set if it starts with Windows or not.

It sets itself to start with the machine by default.

Here's how:

right click the icon on your system tray
uncheck "start webcam central when windows starts" and "Automatically Launch..."

Now it won't load when the machine starts, nor will it run automatically when you use the webcam.

From the start menu, click "run" and then type in "regedit", this should open the registry editor. Then search for HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\Curr entVersion\Explorer\Desktop\NameSpace, one of the keys in there should be related to "scanners and cameras", just delete that key. Then go to the desktop->right-click->refresh and it should be gone. Be careful when editing the registry, it can harm your windows installation!

Awesome! That is exactly what I was looking for. Thank you so much! (TweakXP didn't had the option to remove camera, only My computer and Recycle Bin)
