Default Bare Minimum XP with nLite...Help - 10-10-2009, 12:54 AM

Hi everyone, I recently bought a dell mini 9 which came with ubuntu, that I thought would be ok, but I really didnt get on with, especially when it came to space! I did alot of reading on here, and made a few nLited versions of an OEM windows xp home slipstreamed with sp3 and tweaked to remove excess baggage. But I think I can get even more done.

The idea is, rather than chose what to delete in nLite, I just need some expert advice on what NOT to delete so that everything can run smoothly. I know its each to their own taste, but I will be clear, and this thread might help others in the future because I'm talking absolute bare minimum. I can always uncheck anything I might want to keep at the end.

Some questions also:

If there is not that much difference in size of a basic WMP and the newest one, I would prefer to install that. i.e. can I completely delete all WMP files from install and then still download and run the newest version from windows successfully?

If I delete the images for home screen it will display an x. But can I still create my own later? If not I would also like to keep this?

Do I really need all of this wireless utility rubbish, or is it all useless once I download the Dell drivers, eg broadcom wireless utility?

If your bothered, maybe take a look at my question about drivers here.

Thanks

Don't bother with windows media player-it is a huge, lunky program. Go with Winamp or VLC and the KLite Codec pack.

Deleting the images does just that. You can always add your own later. Personally, I don't bother with the resource hog of a welcome screen-I just use the traditional log in box.

Keep the wireless utility stuff, you will need it for easy wireless setup.

Windows media player - i guess i can live without. But if i delete everything assosciated with it and i wanted to download later, could i?

If welcome screen takes too much space, I can do without. Nice one.

Wireless utility stuff, i haven't used them anyway (i dont think!) as broadcom seems to do the job just fine. So is it safe to delete anything to do with wireless connectivity?
