Default Installed XP Pro over Ubuntu. - 12-03-2008, 07:01 PM

Here is my original system.

Dell Mini 9, Black, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, Ubuntu 8.10

I used nLite to create my XP Pro install. I have also installed Firefox, Thunderbird and OpenOffice.

Dell Mini 9, Black, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, Windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates.

I have 3.45 GB left on the SSD.

So far everything seems fine. The speed is much more than I ever expected. It is kind of unnerving that this thing makes no noise though.

Dell Mini 9, Black, 2GB RAM, 32GB RunCore SSD, OSX 10.5.6
Old Config: Dell Mini 9, Black, 2GB RAM, 32GB RunCore SSD, Dual Boot Windows XP Pro SP3/ 7 Beta.
Older Config: Dell Mini 9, Black, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, Windows XP Pro SP3 with all updates.

So far I have not tried to run the battery down on XP. Just finished setting everything up today.

i just installed xp pro with all sp3 updates and drivers. it used 5.40GB with opera, batterybar, virustotal uploader, yawcam, foxit reader, search everything, skype, and pidgin installed so far. i'll test its battery in a couple of days.

would installing an antivirus eats up more battery?

I also realized I had the brightness on high when I ran my test. I am about to go on the road so I will have a chance to test again.

X-Files and/or Dayene, Any chance either of you would share how you accomplished loading XP Pro over Ubuntu? I've read quite a few posts regarding nLite, usb stick, and other posts, but looking now for a one-stop-solution. If either of you broke the code to an easier install, please share it.

I ordered the same Mini config as X-Files, but I haven't figured out how to get my wife's new "cute pc" to boot from my external USB/DVD-RW into my Dell OEM XP Pro SP1 disk (old laptop is long dead).

It boots to the resource disk, but not to my XP install disk... How did you do the "upgrade"? Thanks!
