Unhappy Looking to use XP Pro for RDP - Question - 12-03-2008, 04:42 PM

I have it on my work laptop provided by the company, but I never used it for anything until I installed a Windows Home Server last week. Now I find the need for installing it on my wife’s desktop and her Mini for the RDP function through the server. They are both running home and I would like to switch them over. What is the actual process? Can I buy an Upgrade or do I need the full version software. I read where people state that a complete install is required here on the Mini forums, but I am unsure as to what version (upgrade or full) of the software they are referring to.

Can someone break it down into layman terms for me?

There is no official Home to Pro upgrade. You would have to purchase a full copy of XP Pro for each of the machines you mentioned. You do have a couple of free options to consider:

1) You can download the RDP Client for Windows XP Home here: XP RDP Client This will only allow you to RDP out. If you need the ability to RDP in to a machine, you need to take a look at option 2.

2) Take a look at this thread: viewtopic.php?f=5&t=111
