Default battery life? - 05-31-2009, 03:59 PM

I was just wondering if putting win7 on your dell mini 9,10,12 makes the battery last longer. I heard win7 has better power management. I wouldn't need to as if my dell inspiron e1505s battery didn't almost die before win7 beta and rc came out so i have no way to tell.

It seems a bit better than XP, but I have not done an apples to apples comparison (no, I'm not using OS X!)

I don't have specific measurements but I just put the new Windows 7 installation on my A90 through its paces this week and it does seem like the improvement in battery life is significant over my previous Ubuntu (8.0.4) install, pace of usage put the battery life close to its intended four hours, while under Ubuntu it was around 3 hours 10 mins or so.

I liked Jaunty 9.04 on the Dell Mini 9, but after putting Windows 7 on it the battery life is much better. How much better? I didn't record battery life for comparison but I'd say I'm getting a least a half hour or hour more. There seem to be a lot of power options in Windows 7 that might help us eek out a little more battery runtime.

Nothing against Jaunty mind you. I have that on my original 16GB SSD and Windows 7 on my Runcore 32GB.

It doesn't know the time, which requires computations based on current draw. I think BIOS A05 is needed to even make this info available, but I don't think that the W7 battery meter will use it.

the battery meter in Win7 shows the time for me, overall going from WinXP to Win7 I gained approx. 30mins extra battery life.
