Default 1GB USB install...possible? - 05-19-2009, 09:43 PM

Has anyone ever gotten the install dir down past 1GB? I don't own a portable DVD drive or a USB stick larger than 1GB. I've used vLite to get it down to 1.2GB so far. Thats ripping out LOTS of programs, all the languages, Media Center, etc. What other big ticket items can I get rid of to slim down the install media?

I don't think it's possible. Why don't you get a 2gb stick? They are so cheap, they're almost free. You could also try borrowing one from someone.

Do you have SD cards (>1GB) and an USB card reader. That will work too.

Nope. Price doesn't factor into this equation. I'm working with what I have. If it really comes down to it I'll just grab either a portable DVD drive or a nice big 8GB flash drive. Thanks for the help. If it's of any interest, I was able to get a Vista Business install down to less than 600MB and not ruin any functionality that anyone gives a crap about (voice support mainly...almost 1GB)

I picked up an 8GB flash drive on sale from a brick & mortar store on sale for $20 a few weeks ago. There should be good Memorial Day sales this weekend (if you are in the US).

My vLite ISO is 1.5GB. Installed it was 3.2GB.
