Default Make 16GB SDHC a fixed disk under W7? - 05-03-2009, 09:35 PM

I am trying to make my 16GB SD card a fixed drive (so I can map pictures, downloads, documents, etc.. to the card) , but it does not seem to be possible. I have searched the forums and google pretty well and cannot find a solution that works.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!!

Not sure what you're trying to do...so far all the things I needed to do with SSD card could be done with SD card in the reader...maybe besides booting off it.

The link that justaguy posted works great. I have it installed on both of our mini's here at home.

To share media with windows media you have to use a mounted drive. With the sd card viewing as a removable device it doesn't allow you to do this. I ran into this when I put a movie on it and I took it over to my parents house to watch with them on their 360. Once I installed the different driver it worked perfectly.

Another example is Tivo Desktop.. in Tivo Desktop you cannot set the default transfer folder to a removable device.

I wanted to remap my "Pictures" and "Downloads" folder to the SD card under Windows 7. WHen I tired to do it before it told me that you could not remap the folders because the new folders were on a removable disk. Also, my Zune software, would not let me map the subscription folder to a removable drive. Now everything works the way I want it.

One more question, does this driver slow down the transfer rate for the SD card? It seemed a bil slow when I moved the zune folder over. I know I can roll back the driver and test it, I just dont want to mess with it.

Thanks Again!!!

I can't for the life of me, get this driver to work. Are you guys performing this on the Beta or RC?

This works on XP; I don't run W7.

Create a new folder on a fixed drive (C:\NewFolder).
Insert the SDHC card and close any autorun dialogs.
Right click on My Computer and choose Manage.
Click on Disk Management.
Right click on the SDHC card and select Change Drive Letter and Paths.
Remove the assigned drive letter.
Click the Add button to assign a drive letter, but select the "Mount in an Empty Folder" option and select the folder you created previously.
Close everything and Windows should see the contents of your removable media in the folder on your hard drive.

Works great on XP and Vista. ymmv

From here: sdhc-use-t101s10.html-st=0&sk=t&sd=a

Make sure you go to device manager and click on SD card drive under disk drives and choose update driver tell it not to look for drivers and click that you have the disk point to the cfadisk cab file that has the gear on it and thats it. Make sure you format the SDHC Card in NTFS first. After the drive shows up as a hard disk then reformat the card back to fat32 to speed the card back up.

Is it formatted? Can Windows see it? Did you grab the Hitachi driver?
