If you have Windows Vista or newer, then I still prefer the diskpart utility to make it bootable. This will erase the drive though.

Start>Run> cmd
diskpart
list disk
select disk <n> (whichever corresponds to your usb from above)
clean
create partition primary
active
format quick fs=fat32
assign
exit

Takes like 30 seconds.

This worked flawlessly for me. Follow the instructions to the letter and had windows 7 on my new netbook under 35 mins. Basically, after exit from the command prompt, just copy the .iso files over to your USB without any change to the files or their names. Plug your USB to your netbook and select to boot from USB. It's that simple.

I tried OP's instruction using the HP format tool and renaming and it never worked for me, but thanks for the guide anyway.

Is Win7 available anyplace these days, or did you have to be a beta tester to get it?

If you're an MSDN subscriber, you can get it (the original 7000 build). Otherwise you have to already be on Microsoft's beta list or get it from a torrent.

Seed? I have no idea what you're talking about or what to do with a "torrent". If I can't get it someplace where my 30mps down/10mps up fiber connection is useful ... I don't need anything that badly.

I discovered that my NAS box has a built-in BitTorrent client. Works well.
