Default Windows 7? - 02-13-2009, 12:21 PM

Are you guys running Windows 7 Beta planning on re-installing Windows when the final gets released, or am I missing something? I thought the betas had built-in expiration timers that disallowed people from running them c. August?

You probably should have asked this in the Windows 7 sub-board.

I plan to reinstall when 7 goes production, or a release candidate comes out, whichever comes first, even if there's an upgrade path.

ditto. i'd rather run what ms was probably running and testing instead of just slapping more goop onto the beta that makes it "official."

The only thing slowing me down will be parting with my cash for a full install- I dont believe our XP's will qualify for a reduced price "upgrade", so parting with $200 something bucks will be painful for me as I have laid out more cash than I should have already this year on other upgrades for the 9 and other comps I have. Unless the economy here in Cali does a 180-lol.
The beta for me has been kinda buggy as far as network/homegroup issues which I'm hoping are ironed out by RTM.
Full clean install for me as the beta is loaded with crap I don't want on the final install.

My understanding is that an upgrade price for XP users will be available but that the "upgrade" consists of a new install, not preserving your existing configuration.

There is no way I would pay $200 for Windows 7. I might give $75-$100. Go figure.

if you know anyone still in college, you can see if they can get an educational discount. i bought xp pro from my school for $25 5-6yrs ago. no manuals or documentation tho. just a shrinkwrapped disk with a carboard envelope. ^_^

You should be able to buy an OEM version for between $100-125. I think they removed the requirement that you had to buy it with a piece of hardware (though if it's still there you can just order a mouse or something small to meet the requirement).
