Default nwifi.sys..... (problems solved) well, maybe not - 02-10-2009, 08:01 AM

In another thread I had posted that I was getting booted off my network and bumped into my public profile and form time to time would get a Blue Screen of Creativity with a NWIFI.SYS error. As these problems became more prevalent, I would stomp around the house trying to figure out why my drop rate was so high and reset the router. On these rants I noticed there was always someone on the phone- V-tech cordless - 2.4 ghz. I instantly put 2.4(wi-fi freq.) + 2.4(cordless phone) together and had my wife cancel our Verizon landline and voila, no more problems.

Some 2.4GHz phones are more trouble than others. I ran for years with 2.4GHz phones (Panasonic) and never had a WiFi problem. You may want to use this as an excuse to buy new phones, either the 5.2(?)GHz or the "DECT 6.0" models.

Depending on your setup, you might have been able to solve it by changing the broadcast channels that both the router and the phone use. They were both probably set up by default to use the same one. But what's done is done.

Since the family all carries cells now, I've been pestering the wife to cancel landline for sometime. basically spending $40 a month for a line that only sales people call on. this took care of both birds.

edit- NEVER had this problem with XP, by the way, ONLY Win 7.

for some reason or another I've gotten 2 today- changed freq. on router, will see how that does. Getting a lot of C++ Runtime errors for C:/Program Files/Mozilla Firefox although that seems to only be from watching flash vid. ?
