Default HELP Trusted Installer - 02-02-2009, 01:22 AM

OMG I hate this thing. I dumped Vista RC1 over this after one week. I am likng Win 7 but I can't even delete a .wav file? I have spent the better part of the evening trying to work around it.   I tried a bunch of fixes I found but none worked.

On the plus side, I did remove the watermark and send feedback.

Sorry, try that again? I have no clue what problem you're seeing.

Yes it does. I skipped Vista entitrely so not having the permissions to even delete a .wav file is to me, nuts. TrustedInstaller owns all the rights. I moved the slider for UAC down to 25% & tried it off completely, played around with assigning rights and it tells me I am not allowed to do it.

I find that it matters where the file is as to whether or not it asks for permission. I turned UAC off.

I turned UAC off as well. Still unable to delete the start.wav file. Removing it is one of the first things I do in XP Pro as it drives me crazy. It's the one that makes a click sound when selecting stuff. Can't rename it either. Tried in Safe Mode as well. Where's DOS "rem" when I need it?

You're doing it the wrong way. Rather than delete the file, go into the Sounds control panel customization and change the "Start Navigation" sound to "None".

Windows prevents you from deleting certain core OS files - that's one of them. I found that notepad.exe is another.

Thank you! You have no idea how annoying I find that .wav file.
