Default Mini runs hotter with Win7 - 01-25-2009, 04:08 AM

Am I the only one whose Mini 9 is hotter running Win7 than it was with XP? Using XP to do basic, not very intensive tasks like surfing the web the machine barely got warm sitting on my lap. Tonight is my first night using Win7 and the machine feels much hotter.

Before I start tuning power settings I wanted to find out if if anyone else is seeing this.

This might be a hardware issue. Mine runs cool with Win7, then again, it always has.
Maybe while in your lap you are not allowing proper air circulation? I dunno, just guessing if there are any other factors causing your overheating prob.

I have not noticed a difference.

Definitely noticed a difference here. Was pretty cool with Ubuntu but it's much warmer with Win 7. Haven't done the obsessive tweaking yet, though -- could make a difference depending on how much tweaking might reduce proc cycles.

Windows 7 / XP, no noticable temp differences for me.

I went into power management and it was set for passive cooling, switched to active and the temp went back to normal.

Do you mean --> Control Panel-->All Control Panel Items-->Power Options? 'cuz I'm not finding anything that switches 'tween active and passive.

By the way, the temps from my previous post were inaccurate. Apparently I was picking up residual heat from a nearby spaceheater. My temps are currently at 33-34C, only slightly higher than the 30-32 I would get in XP.

edit--scratch that. after looking again it seems to maintain a constant temp of 44c now.
