Default Windows 7 Blue Screen of Death - 01-20-2009, 01:07 AM

Has anyone else received the BSOD while using W7? I randomly will get it, maybe once or twice a day while just browsing on firefox. When I get it, it is not readable. It is the bluescreen, but the error message is unreadable as it looks like the horizontal resolution lines are all screwed up, so I can't actually view the error message.

Verify that at least Small Memory Dump is enabled System Properties (right click my Computer, Properties, Advanced, Startup and Recovery Settings, Write debugging information, Small Memory dump or Kernel Memory dump. Take note of where it's saving the file. After the next BSOD use the tools at:

to see what exactly the error code and failing system file is.

Normally when I get it, it says a problem with the tdx.sys. Did you set up your system to record the mini dumps. That will help figure out the problem.

Kernel memory dump is on. Should it be changed? It is saving to %SystemRoot%\MEMORY.DMP. Does that tool run on your computer then when it gives you the BSOD it saves the information? Because it doesn't show any error code for me to type in as the screen is unreadable. Thanks for the help

It has only happened to me once in two weeks of using Windows 7, so I haven't investigated what cause it yet. I couldn't put a finger on what might have caused it, other than trying to do too much at once right after coming out of sleep.

The dump has information but you need Microsoft "debug" tools to read it. However, the system event viewer should have the necessary information.

Tdx.sys sounds like it is related to the nic driver.
If you can get the memory dump I could probably pull more info from it.

tdx.sys errors are related to network drivers. This error has been caused by some non-win& compliant Anti-virus programs. I'm using Nod32 and haven't had a problem.

Uninstall your virus prog - if that doesn't work, you may have to reinstall Win7 - but don't install any anti-virus for a day or two to check that it's stable.

I have NOD32 as well, and I actually didn't install it for about a week and it had done the BSOD prior to AV install. I will try some of the tools suggested and maybe next time it happens I can give you guys more information. Thanks again

So, what have you installed?

I'm on a virgin Win7 install with only Nod32 and Google Chrome installed and it's rock solid.
