Default Post which version of Windows 7 you have installed - 01-12-2009, 10:36 AM

I am installing the Ultimate with Vlite tweaks. I am not sure if that is a good version, but I am open to any comments about your installation. I am hoping that the forum can produce one streamlined version that we can all use.

I am up and running with my ultimate installation. 6.5 gig free only, but the os runs quickly. I like it so far. Not as slow and drab as xp was.

Ultimate is the only version you can install if you're taking part in the public beta. There are two flavors of this available -- x86 and x64. Since the Atom isn't a 64-bit processor, that means you have to use the 32-bit x86 version.

Actually, if you plug the Beta (Build 7000 ISO) into vLite, you will have the option to build a new ISO for the Home, Home Premium, Business or Ulitmate versions.

Would anyone be willing to post a "last_session.ini" file from their succesful vLite'd Windows 7 install?

Sorry, I won't be able to until I get home tonight (and being that I'm on the US West Coast, that's at least 8 hours away).

But here's what I did...

I followed jej.514s thread, except that I had to keep the following:

System Restore
Crash and Dump Support

And then I also kept:

UAC Controls
Run a legacy CPL elevated

One of those got me past a hurdle, but I didn't take the time to find out which one.

Lastly, you can not do an unattended/automated setup in Win 7 (not sure why, but the guys at MSFN will figure it out long before me). Win7 gave certificate errors on each of the drivers, but installed them anyway, then updates them. I have had to go back and get the Synaptics drivers for Vista on my own (especially if you want the touchpad scroll feature).

I have only run into one problem with this set up. After I was given a Product Key, I have not been able to add it - it gives me a missing DLL error. I will work on fixing that tonight.

I'll check to see if I have mine.

I'm running build 6956 and I successfully instead it after I completed removing all the crap using vlite.

No issues yet. Been running for about a month so far.

Windows 7 beta 1 Build 7000 (Ultimate). No issues, really impressed with the responsiveness especially running Aero!

I guess I didnt know about the vlite making the other versions available. I used vlite, thats why I thought it was anormal option at install for everyone. I remember having Vista Ultimate on my other laptop. It ran well, but was too loaded with junk.
