Default Windows 7 locks up if left for a while - 01-12-2009, 09:43 AM

My windows 7 keeps locking up if I leave it alone for a while. Screen is on so it isn't sleeping (or at least it didn't finish sleeping). I don't have any unknown device drivers. Anyone have a suggestion.

no problems here as well. Check your event viewer and see if there is anything that is causing it.

This one is driving me nuts too and I'll probably switch back to vLited Vista pretty soon if there's no solid answer.

My situation is i'm locking either when I hit the power button (sleep) or on a resume.

Build 7000, no drivers unknown, etc. Don't know how to proceed.

Thoughts?

I thought it was the screen saver but I disabled it and it is still happening. I am going to turn off all automatic sleep and power setting to see if that helps. I think it is a power issue.

seems to be getting worse. It locks up almost immediately after not touching it. Not sure what is doing it but it is pretty much instant. I am going to start deleting programs and see if there is something that is causing it.

Decided to do a clean install to see if I can fix it. It was pretty much unusable as it was.

I think my problem is related to the SD card. I changed the driver to the hitachi microdrive (to make it a fixed disk so I could put my dropbox files on the sd card). The driver worked fine in xp but I think that is the problem in Windows 7. Some how I screwed it up so that even putting in the SD card results in a blue screen. So I am going to try with no SD card for a few days and see what happens. Any suggestions on how to do a work around with the sd card? I have a 16 gb sd card and would really like to use it for the dropbox files. I may just try to install some programs on the sd card instead of files.
