Exclamation Mini 10v USB ports stopped working - 08-02-2010, 01:52 AM

My USB ports recently stopped working. Im not sure what caused the problem or how to fix it.

When I plug my digital camera in the 10v doesn't recognize it, but the camera thinks it's plugged into the computer. I think this tells me that the USB power is still working.

When I go to hardware devices on my computer I see 3 USB devices with exclamation points!
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27C9
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB Universal Host Controller - 27CB
Intel(R) 82801G (ICH7 Family) USB2 Enhanced Host Controller - 27CC

The status of all 3 devices is the same:
Windows has stopped this device because it has reported problems.
(Code 43).

The three device locations are:
PCI bus 0, device 29, function 1
PCI bus 0, device 29, function 3
PCI bus 0, device 29, function 7

Im running windows 7 starter on my mini 10v.

Anybody have any ideas whats wrong? AND How to fix it?

Welcome to the forums.

I'd start by booting into another OS to determine whether it's a hardware or software problem.

I don't have another O/S installed on this machine. Without a working USB I cant plug in my CD drive or a thumbdrive to boot from. Any alternate ideas?

Can you create a bootable USB drive on another computer, then attempt to boot off it on the Mini? Or plugin a USB optical drive, and boot off a bootable CD/DVD?

If the USB hardware has failed, you won't be able to boot off USB, obviously. But if it's just a Windows software problem, then USB will work perfectly outside of the OS installed on your hard drive.

So I created a bootable Thumb drive on another PC (Ubuntu 10.4 Netbook Edition). I started up my Mini and it booted into Ubuntu without any troubles... So I guess its a Windows problem and not a USB problem. Short of re-imaging the machine is there a way to fix this?

I'm not afraid to break things, so I'd probably delete the problematic entries out from device manager, and hope the autodetect driver reinstall works.

EXACTLY.....it is definitely a driver issue...deleting and re-installing should fix it
