Question Help Installling windows 7 - 07-01-2010, 06:17 PM

I decided to go ahead and try installing windows 7 on my dell mini 10v. I currently have ubuntu 9.10 which I will dual boot once 7 is installed but I am having a hard time installing. I get to the point where you pick your drive to put the windows partition on and nothing comes up. I have a 120gb hard drive so why isnt it showing up? Do I need to delete my ubuntu partition first or what should I do?

Select an "advanced" or "custom" install (I don't remember the exact words.) From there you have the ability to delete existing partitions and then install to the unallocated space.

For some reason I dont have the custom install button. When I click "what you should know before installing" it talks about the custom install but all i have is install now. Oh and I am trying to install home premium.

Click Install Now - I think the custom install is on the next screen.

Yes, after clicking Install now it takes you to Upgrade or Custom.

Maybe the Windows DVD is suspect, I have not seen an install go like that, and I've done 80 W7 upgrades/clean installs at work.
Is it a genuine Windows cd or a Dell OS cd?

I have it booting from a USB. I used the guide on this site to make it. I have an external cd and cd rom drive but I can't put DVD or dvdrs in it and windows 7 is on a DVD. My windows xp that came with the mini is a cd rom so I was able to use it to delete ubuntu from my drive but I still get that error. Do I need all the dell drivers at the start? I was thinking of using my desktops drive to install it but I wasn't sure if that would be more complicated or not.
