Default Sleeping giant...errr..Mini - 06-29-2010, 03:49 PM

Howdy,

I've been having this reoccurring problem with my Hackintosh'ed mini 9. Everything has been working great for the most part with no problems on either OS. I use my mini on the train to work every morning and I have the power options set on Sleep when you close the lid.

However, I'm finding that it's not staying asleep and has been firing up with the lid closed which of course is draining more power from the battery and generally heating up the unit. I now have to keep a close watch on the power LED to see when/if it stops blinking and goes solid. Then I have to open and re-close the lid.

Not a big deal, but It's nice to be able to pause a movie and pick it up again on the train ride home if you know what I mean.

Anyone had this problem or have a solution?

In which OS does this happen? Or both?

Just 7 so far.

Truthfully I haven't been using SL much as I'm finding that VLC in Win 7 is working better than Front Row in SL for me anyway....but I digress.

When I have my Mini plugged in at home I'm pretty sure that my use of Synergy is causing it to wake. But I still have the problem at work where it's isolated and not on any network or wi-fi.

Ok, moved this to the Win7 section now. So far sleep has worked perfectly for me on my 9, so perhaps someone else will have a clue for you.

Next time it happens, open a command window and type "powercfg -lastwake".

After powercfg -lastwake I get:

Wake History count -1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 0

Not sure what those results tell me though.

Did you run the command after a wakeup event or just after a reboot? Here's what I get when I open the lid, but this is on a Studio 17. I don't happen to have a Mini with Win7 at the moment unfortunately.

Did you install the Dell Battery Meter application? It installs an ACPI driver you may need.

I have the ACPI driver and I did get the:

Wake History Count - 1
Wake History [0]
Wake Source Count - 1
Wake Source [0]
Type: Device
Instance Path: ACPI\PNP0C0D\2&daba3ff&1
Friendly Name:
Description: ACPI Lid

message. Something's still going on though. If I close the lid it goes to sleep like normal (slow blinking power led). On most days when I get to work I leave it in my briefcase until it's time to go home unless I need to charge it at work. Lately when I've gone to pull it out of my briefcase it feels like a furnace in there and the unit is almost too hot to hold. That can't be good for it.

Not a huge deal though...i guess I can just go back to powering it off every morning when I get to work. It would just be nice if it worked like it should.

Is it possible that the lid is getting bumped open slightly, triggering the wake state? If not that, then there could be a problem with the lid sensor. I don't know if the 9 uses a mechanical or magnetic sensor, but you might check to make sure there is nothing magnetic in the briefcase.
