Default my dell mini wont even startup anymore - 06-26-2010, 05:23 AM

when i turn it on it goes straight to a screen that says::

windows could not start because the following item is missing or corrupt:

please reinstall.

what on earth does this mean? i know nothing about computers. please help me

It means that the copy of Windows on the disk inside the Mini has become corrupted. Which model Mini do you have? (Look at the Dell label on the bottom for the model number - it will be 910, 1010, 1011 or 1012.) Do you have a USB-connected CD or DVD reader you can use? Do you know which version of Windows you were using? (XP, Vista, 7)

Why was it gone? Did you delete it by mistake? Lucky for you I have gone through this problem as well. And I have a solution here for you. You can either reformat your hard disk or reinstall windows or, you can simply follow these steps. Go to the recovery console, and then type in expand D:\i386\ntoskrnl.ex_C:\windows\system32, assuming that the CD is in D and the windows is installed in C. if the file exists, type Y to overwrite the file. And finally type exit to restart your computer.
