Default Windows 7 install issues on Mini 10 with RunCore SSD - 01-01-2010, 09:49 PM

I've had no luck getting Windows 7 installed (clean install) on my Mini 10 with the 64GB RunCore Pro IV SATA II SSD. When installing Windows 7 from DVD (external USB drive), it get's to the part of patitioning the drive and when I ask it to create a new partition, it goes away for a few miniutes and comes back with "No drives were found. Click Load Driver to provide a mass storage device for installation." Note the drive WAS there because I was able to delete existing partition(s) and request a new partition to be created.

This same hardware configuration runs fine under Windows XP.

And I've tried paritioning the disk with diskpart and then I get as far as "copying files (0%)" and it stops there.

And I've tried doing an Windows 7 upgrade (from XP) and it bluescreens during the installation process.

It's almost like I need to install a driver for the RunCore, but I don't think so.

Any ideas?

No special driver needed. You say that XP installs ok?

Try "CHKDSK \F". F is the fix command. Try chkdsk with no flag first. Does it show up correctly in the BIOS?

Yes, XP installs and runs with no problem.

The SSD was originally installed by doing a TruImage copy of the factory HDD. No problems. Copy, physical installation and booted with no issue. And it ran that way for a few weeks.

The SSD will work for a clean XP install (with partitioning and formatting).

Can't really do a CHKDSK since I cannot get the partition created.

And yes, it shows up in the BIOS just fine. And runs under XP just fine.

you can not upgrade Win XP to Win 7, you must do a fresh install, I kinda did it assbackwards, I installed XP Pro to the entire drive, then used Acronis Disk DIrector Suite to shrink the XP partition, then created a new partition and formatted in NTFS, then install Win 7 Ultimate...my machine dual boots, all drivers work, TV, wifi, camera, bluetooth etc....just my 0.02...

You may want to try GParted. It's free. GParted -- Live CD/USB/PXE/HD

Just like XP, GParted can partition the SDD just fine. However, when the Windows 7 installer uses that partition, it hangs at "Copying Windows Files (0%)".

Still stuck.

I strongly recommend deleting all partitions on the disk and telling Win7 to install into the unpartitioned space.

Tried that and it still doesn't work.

Thanks to everyone for your help and I'm giving up on this effort. I plan on installing the original 160GB HDD in the system and restoring it back to it's original factory state at which point I will dispose of this system. Same for the RunCore 64GB SDD.
