Why do you need to install Dell webcam central?

On my mini 9 and win 7 the driver for the webcam is already installed. I use it for Skype and MS Messenger.

What does webcam central actually do? I know it came pre-installed with XP but I removed it with other unnecessary programs.

Well, this version allows you to take a photo or a movie and even to automatically upload snapshots to an FTP server at regular intervals. I agree that if you're using Skype, etc., nothing special is needed.

araignee / holmes 4

What versions of webcam driver and software are being reported by Windows 7? They should be the following:

Integrated Webcam
Provider: Creative Technology Ltd
Date: 18/7/2008

Dell Webcam Central
Version: 1.01.04

I've found that only this combination will work. Please let me know.

Default Last Step - 05-26-2010, 09:43 PM

There is one more final step required to make this work. After unzipping and running the setup.exe file as described (the one buried in the secondary file, there are two of them total), go back and run the .exe file as originally downloaded from Dell ftp without unzipping it.

Yes, this is a patch, and most of the Mini9's need this patch as well.

Follow Irvin's instructions but add the patch as the last step. When you first start Webcam Central you may get an error "close the other application using your webcam". Simply close Webcam Central and relaunch it. That will clear the problem.

I hope this helps!

I could not find the file from the original post for Dell Webcam Central. (Does anyone have it, by the way?)

Another file I found would not download (different version from Irvin's post): Drivers and Downloads ....

The last thing I found: As per the 2nd post by Pwilly at Dell Webcam Central & Windows 7 (The Windows 7 Version Of The Dell Webcam Central Program) - Microsoft OS Forum - Software & Operating Systems - Dell Community

Integrated Camera driver used comes from the Support Page for the Mini 12, as per the original post

Download gotten from:

Drivers and Downloads

Info placed here to bring to your attention but also mentioned in my post in: Latest Mini 9 Win 7 drivers
