I have a Dell Mini 10v with a Dell 5530 modem. I was sucessfully connecting to Orange UK for 2 months but it stopped working in November 2009. I tried everything from disassembling the computer completely to reinstalling the OS (Windows 7) and buying a second hand f3507 from ebay to try and resolve the issue. I twigged there was something more complex going on when I tried to log on when the 3g reception dropped out one day (its always had 1-2 bars at my house) and I was able to successfully connect to Orange on GPRS. When 3G came back my connection dropped out again. I then tried Vodaphone and 3 sim cards and was able to succesfully connect to their respective 3G networks. Having isolated Orange's network as the problem I spoke to their technical support, and eventually they worked out there was an update to the SGSN settings on the Orange 3G network in November 2009 which prevented certain Sony Ericsson phones (C905, w705 and w995) from connecting to the network. There has since been a firmware update for each of those phones to allow them to "talk" to the Orange UK 3G network. So I'm 99% sure its the same problem (limited solely to the Orange UK 3G network)and what is required is a firmware update from Dell/Ericsson. I will get in touch with Dell Support this evening. |

From what I gathered these are the latest so far: Dell Mini 10 (1010) : DELL_WIRELESS-5530-HSPA-MINI_A11_R242762.exe or previous: DELL_WIRELESS-5530-HSPA-MINI_A07_R220893.exe Installing either of these would not give me GPS port in windows7 although A11 integrates 3G nicely with the windows7 wireless. Someone was kind enough to post an unpacked version of A07 (I think) here. Installing these manually gave me the gps but doesnt integrate 3G in windows 7. Still need to use the Mobile Broadband Manager to connect to Vodafone. This is what Im using at the moment. I tried the newer Mini 10 (1010) Mobile Broadband Manager with the unpacked A07 drivers installed. That failed to detect the card so went back to the old Broadband Manager. Update:there are a few more updates for the 5530 card. Latest seems to be A14. Has anyone managed to install the latest in a mini9 and still have the GPS port in device manager? |

I installed new 5530 drivers A14 Dell - Search - All Dell.com on mini9/win7. I can confirm that mobile broadband and GPS works. Mobile broadband works perfect, dont even have to change any configuration. GPS recieve lots of data, however either the signal is to weak or I'm not able to get it to work with google earth. Dont know why nobody have mentioned this on this forum but there is a EXCELENT tool for enable/disable gps from linpusw81. Check out: Dell GPS | Get Dell GPS at SourceForge.net

Then use for a few days without realized that the Wireless manager cannot enable radio. but it can see the modem detail and sim card information. But it just showed in the window "Radio Disabled". Then tried reinstalled driver and wireless manager, some how couldnt get it to enable radio. Finally get the old SSD to fresh install XP Pro SP2. Install XP version of A00 wireless manager and XP version A06 driver listed in dell mini 9 driver website. And the wireless manager also unable to enable radio. It prompt "Radio is disabled by the wireless switch. Return the switch to the "enable" position." after clicking enable button on the wireless manager window. So i conclude the modem gave problem and dell service has replace the modem. And reinstall driver and wireless manager but no success. Then after get the motherboard replace, it was all working well. All in XP. The board was A05 bios. After testing ok, I decided to upgrade it to A06. Then test it and it was also working well. Also in XP. A few hours later (power off), I change my SSD to runcore (win 7). Then cold boot to win 7, it couldn't enable radio. Then i thought it was wrong driver and wireless manager... Read this topic and installed the recommended driver and wireless manager for win 7 installed. Again, it was not able to enable radio. Then again decided to put back the old SSD (XP). Now it was unable to enable radio in XP too. I was confused, windows 7 driver screwed the modem or A06 mini 9 BIOS screw up the modem? I recalled, test the modem OK in new A05 BIOS motherboard. Then only upgrade it to A06 BIOS, warm boot (restarts) and it was working OK. DID NOT test it on cold boot. So not sure whether A06 the culprit. So need your advice, what version of wireless manager and 5530 driver for windows 7 you install in your A06 mini 9 for it to work? |

Minor cosmetic issue is that it comes up as "Mobile Broadband Connection 2" in the network list, but I'm sure I'l be able to figure that one out. thanks matt
