Windows 7 Family Pack - DVD version - 10-31-2009, 07:33 AM
I currently have 3 Mini10v's. They are all running windows 7 RC1. Installed via USB stick.
I saw the windows Home Premium Family Pack for $150.
My question is:
Has anyone installed a version of Windows 7 Upgrade via a home made USB key? (http://www.mydellmini.com/forum/dell...ash-drive.html)
How does the "Upgrade" work?
I have all of the software, I just dont have a USB CD rom.
So far, I have a bootable USB fob with Windows 7 (RC1). Can I just delete the RC1 files and put the new DVD contents on there?
I also have a bootable USB fob with windows XP (the copy I got from Dell).
Any thoughts before I jump.
I just saw a thread that mentioned a registry setting. I read some news on it and it is legal to do so, but I was just curious, since I am doing a Legal upgrade, if there is a Microsoft preferred clean install.

I did one as a plain upgrade from Vista SP1 to Win7 (although I DON'T recommend upgrade installs - I always prefer clean installs). I did the second as an upgrade to XP SP3 by backing up and doing a custom install using the on disk utility to reformat the HD, and the last one (Dell Mini 9) as a fresh install on a new Super Talent 128gb SSD by doing the old double install (first install as a custom install and don't enter the product key, then second install as an upgrade install with the product key and easily activated).
My guess is if you don't have XP currently installed, you'll need to go the last route as if it were an empty disk. Check out winsupersite.com where they provide instructions on several different methods to do this so long as you own a legit copy of XP or Vista.
