I used a guide and saved some real space... about 6 GBs free so I'll take it.

I just finished installing the Student version of 7 Pro on my 16GB SSD. Base clean install, with no 'slimming' options and I had about 5GB free. I turned off hibernation and after installing the drivers and OpenOffice, I have 5.7GB of hard drive space free.

I'll consider slimming it down next month, as my goal is to dual boot Ubuntu 9.10 and 7 together.
