thanks Steve, I got the files on my HP, maybe I will send them over to the Mini and see what happens....I already dual boot ya know, but I figured if the VM works then I could delete the XP partition and just run the VM if and when I needed it and get back that extra 98gb..not that I really need it with Win 7 already having 600gb (lol)...I will let ya know what happens

Note that Microsoft makes available an "XP Mode" preloaded Virtual PC image if you have Win7 Professional or higher. That's what I use.

I am running 7 Ult..where do you get it from Steve?, I think thats what I am running on my HP and what started this whole thread, how does it run on the 1010 with the z530? or is it a waste of time and I am better off with an actual XP partition like I have now?

Download Windows XP Mode

Turns out it is not dependent on Windows 7 edition.

Whether or not XP Mode is useful to you depends on what you want it for. If it's to run selected applications that don't run under Win7, then it's fine. If you want to use XP for itself, then a separate partition is better, assuming you have a valid license for XP.

What I use it for is to run a 16-bit game my wife likes on my 64-bit Win7 desktop system. The way it works is that the game looks like any other app on her desktop, but when you run it, it starts the VM in the background. You'd hardly know it was there.

yeah thats what I thought, I remember having to download it for my HP laptop, now you know the processor in that right, but how would it or would it run on a z530?..thats what I am interested in..if its gonna be a dog..I aint gonna bother....you say the wife runs a game, how long between clicking on the game, starting the VM in the background then initializing the game does she actually have to wait to get to play?...get coffee & take a shower while you wait or just grab coffee?

My desktop system has a Core 2 Duo E6700 (very first of the Core 2 Duo processors.) If she has not started the game since the PC was booted, it takes 13 seconds to load, with a message that the XP VM is resuming from hibernation. Otherwise it's about five seconds.

I would expect a Z530 to be considerably slower than that, but still not time enough to get coffee.
