Default Vista drivers better for 7 than 7 drivers? - 08-27-2009, 02:44 PM

So I have known since RC1 that Vista drivers do work perfectly fine for Win 7. I have used them in both 64 and 32 bit versions, RC1 and RTM Ultimate, and on machines with both NVIDIA and ATI Chipsets.

Now, the other day I installed RTM Ultimate-32 on an HP Pavillion. I went to HP's website to get the video drivers. They didnt have 7 yet so I used Vista. Did the compatibility test and for Aero got a score of 3.1.

Then I went to NVIDIA's website and got the 7 drivers for the same exact hardware. isntalled, did the test again, and the Aero score went down to 2.7.

Went back to Vista drivers, back up to 3.1.

Anyone else notice this? Whats the deal? Are the 7 drivers just not finalized yet? Shouldnt unfinished 7 drivers still work better than Vista drivers?

Not necessarily - if the beta Win7 drivers are still under development.

Higher score doesn't necessarily mean better drivers.

And since Windows 7 doesn't ship until late October, they still have over a month (almost two!) to revise their drivers before ship day.
