Default Bluetooth Problem in Win 7 - 07-15-2009, 12:37 AM

I am having a problem with my Broadcom bluetooth card in Win 7. Anytime my system comes out of hibernate or on restart, it does not recognize my bluetooth card. It tells me it is an unknown Serial USB device, and it will not properly install the drivers for the card. I have downloaded the software from Broadcom, and tried uninstalling the device from within the Device Manager several times. Even when it scans again, it tells me that the driver install has failed and it's an unknown USB device. Every once in a great while on restart, it does correctly install the driver software. Does anyone know where I can find a Bluetooth driver for Win 7? I know it is supposed to be built in, but I cannot for the life of me, get it to work right. Or, does someone know how to forcibly remove the bluetooth driver from Win 7, and then see if it can get an update for it again? Thanks for any help you can provide.

I spent a lot of time trying to make the built-in Broadcom BCM2046 chip work in Win 7 but had the same results as you. All that time I kept thinking about how well it worked in XP. Final solution- Install the Win XP driver in Win 7. Works near perfectly. Be sure to install the complete package so you get the systray icon with right-click quick-connect options.

ONE WARNING- Do not click on "My Bluetooth Places" cuz it crashes Win 7. Be sure to also install the Dell driver that gives you the Fn-F2 pop-up wireless switcher options. You need this to ensure the BT card is really on.

I have been using this setup everyday for over a month now to play internet radio in Winamp through my Insignia external BT speakers.

I too had problems with my Mini 10v's BCM92045 bluetooth module on Windows 7 after resuming from hibernate - I installed the XP drivers from the Dell website and it now works correctly. My Logitech V470 mouse now responds correctly after hibernation. You have to set the Windows XP compatibility option before running setup.exe.

I replaced the Windows XP drivers with this driver - it works fine with my existing BT mouse but I don't seem to get a Bluetooth icon on the task bar so I can't see how to disable it or add new devices.

Try going to the Devices and Printers panel.

I ended up doing a system restore to undo the original installation of the XP drivers and then installed the new Windows 7 BT drivers successfully. I think there was some issue with uninstalling the XP drivers properly.

Putting it there makes sense from an overall standpoint, you'd go there if you added a new USB printer for example, but it seems so odd considering that darn system tray was used for everything and the kitchen sink prior to Vista/Win 7. I think the install readme should have called out that change explicitly.

I was puzzled by the new drivers because I too couldn't figure out how to add a new device til just dumb luck with my one multi-function device put up a little system alert telling me to look there and choose if it was to be sound only or sound and microphone. Otherwise I'd never have figured it out.

I am still having a problem with the BCM92046 Bluetooth wireless card in my Mini 10v with Windows 7 RTM. I have the current A06 BIOS and I have installed the Broadcom 6.2.0.9700 drivers. When I resume from hibernate the Bluetooth is not working and the option is not even appearing in the Dell Wireless Enable/Disable application which would indicate that the USB device is not even being initiailised. Any ideas?

- Simon.
