| Just installed the Release Windows 7 Beta and the released update. Very nice so far. I had XP Pro on previously but this is much faster and smoother. The only drivers I have installed so far were the Battery Meter/Bluetooth switch and the JMicron R1.00.21 WHQL drivers. With just those two installed Device Manager is clean. The Ethernet Port came up when I applied the update KB961367. With the base auto install and these few drivers installed, 9.19gb is used. I have done no tweaking. |

| So Far everything is running really well with one exception... The RealTek Ethernet interface is running really slow. I should get 32mbps internet tests, but I am get 8mbps. My Wirless N connections is getting 18.5 mbps. Still researching. Anyone else having issues with the ethernet adapter? |

| Windows Update pushed a new Realtek LAN driver and my throughput is backup to 32mbps at my SpeakEasy.net/speedtest. All is good. Make sure you run Windows update to get the updated RealTek drivers. |

| I just finished installing Windows 7 Beta 1 (build 7000) on my mini 9. I installed it from scratch and had the wired ethernet connected so that Windows could download additional updates. It managed to find drivers automatically for most things. Once W7 was done, I installed the following additional items:
At this point, I don't have any unknown devices in device manager, and everything seems to be running just fine. I have upgraded the hardware a bit too; I have the 2GB RAM upgrade from Crucial, and the 64GB RunCore SSD. Listed below are my resultant Windows Experience scores compared to some scores I've seen for Vista. Should I be worried about the apparent short-fall in the processor and Aero graphics socres? Code: W7 Score Vista Score Processor : 1.5 3.0 RAM : 4.0 4.5 Gfx (Aero) : 2.3 4.1 Gfx (Games) : 3.0 2.7 Main Drive : 5.8 5.9 |

| Windows 7 uses a wider scale - up to 8.9 I think, for each of the categories. The numbers are not directly comparable.

| Hi can someone tell me what the dell mini 12 battery / switch thing does? Will it tell me how long is remaining on my battery? Also in unbuntu there were visualizations when I changed the volume and contrast, how can i get that on W7? |

| In Windows 7, the Battery Meter/Wireless Switch really only gives you the wireless switch (if there is a separate battery meter, I can't find it). But it does install a driver needed to support that ACPI device that otherwise says the driver is missing. W7 has its own battery meter which gives you a percent figure. As best as I can tell, the Mini 9 does not report current draw, so it can't compute time remaining. The wireless switch application is the ONLY way to turn Bluetooth on and off. Depending on which wireless card you have, it may also be the only way to turn off the WLAN. It is what comes up when you press Fn-3. I don't know what you mean by visualization and there's no contrast control that I know of. The W7 icon for volume is very low-key.

| Great post and good thread. The only issue I've come across so far is using the web cam with Flash on sites like Ustream and Stickam. The web cam is detected, Flash asks for permission to use it on the sites but I never get video. I may fool around with it more later. By the way, a week too late but I posted a video over at Technical Difficulties podcast site of my Windows 7 installation on the Mini 9. http://www.techdiffpodcast.com/2009/...n-dell-mini-9/ Just a side note about the Technical Difficulties site and podcast. We are still in our early stages so forgive the site; we still have more work to do. Also, to tell you the truth, so far, I really like Windows 7. I was really surprised at how well the OS responds on the Mini. |
