Vista License questions - 11-24-2008, 05:50 PM
I have a Dell XPS 410 desktop for gaming. With 4 GB ram and a video card with 320 MB (soon to be upgraded). Running Vista 32 bit. Since I have all this ram I would like to run 64 bit Vista. I could buy a copy from my work discounted and install - no problem. Except then I would have left over 32-bit OEM version.
Can I use the now unused Dell OEM 32-bit vista and install it on my Mini 9? Is that legal? Would it work, or is it system specific?
Also, can any vista users confirm that www.hulu.com still plays ok. On my XP install it takes 85% CPU to run the webpages, so I am worried if Vista needs extra CPU then I will have studdering and should just stick with XP.
P.S. - My Mini 9 boots up 4x faster then my quad core w/7200 rpm HDD.

I don't know if this still applies (it's from 1/29/07):
"One system builder pointed out, however, that Microsoft's OEM license forbids the software from being transferred to a whole new machine, from scratch, once it is installed on the original target machine. "
I don't think it's system specific but you would be asked to activate it within 30 days.
If you know a student you could buy the Vista Upgrade Academic Version for approx $70.
