Default To Swap Or Not To Swap? - 05-07-2009, 03:17 PM

Linux noob here.

Just wondering if it is necessary to create the swap partition during install? I realize it's important if we intend to use hibernation, but I sure don't. If it is necessary, what size do you suggest?

I have 2 GB of RAM in my Mini 9, by the way.

If you do not intend on using hibernation, then a swap partition is not at all necessary, especially with 2GB RAM.

If you do decide to create a swap partition, you should make it at least as large as your RAM so hibernation will work. With 2GB of RAM, I think the old rule of thumb of 2x your RAM is unnecessary.
