Default OS System Health Utilities? - 11-09-2008, 05:21 PM

I just had to re-boot twice in order get the Mini up and running. I know on my Mac there are disk system utilities that you can "repair permissions" and check on and fix directory issues. I know that some of these things get done automatically in some OS systems in the wee hours of the morning. This assumes your computer is on of course.

So are there some utilities that newbie Ubuntu Dell Mix users should know about, and of course approach with caution? Does the SSD thing require special care? I,ve already seen threads on NOT to defrag. an SSD.

I know a lot of Mini users are old hands at Ubuntu and know this. But many of us were drawn into the benefits of Ubuntu from Mac and Windows and do not know the lay of the land here.

you can boot in to recovery mode or from a thumb drive and use fsck to check the file system.
