Default Built-In Restore Disc Creation? - 11-07-2008, 06:21 PM

I was reading on Ideastorm last night about Linux BIOS updating (as linked in a different thread) and by chance happened to run across a document that discussed restoration of the computer to the stock software state. It mentioned that there were two ways to do this. The first was to press "ESC" right at startup to bring up the GRUB bootloader which would have an option to restore the original Ubuntu distro. The second was to use a built-in restore disc creator program, that would create a restore disc allowing you to restore the computer to as-delivered state including all the special Dell optimizations and codecs. It was shown as a desktop icon. Does the Mini 9 Ubuntu install have either of these capabilities?

Here's the website where I saw this: http://linux.dell.com/wiki/index.php/Ub ... stallation

In short, no. Due to the limited disk space for the mini, no restoration option was given other than the disks (which is ironic due to the lack of an optical drive.

P.S. If anyone is looking for the current location of the restore image for ubuntu, it is ftp.dell.com/OS/Inspiron_910_Ubuntu_A00.img
