Default Windows XP -> Ubuntu? - 10-26-2008, 09:03 PM

I recently signed up for and now have the Dell Inspiron Mini 9 from Vodafone UK. I wasn't aware at the time, however, that Dell also shipped this sub-notebook with Ubunutu as standard in some cases; unfortunately Vodafone only offered a version with Windows as the base OS.

I'd really like to dump Windows and use Ubunutu if at all possible. Looking over this forum I have gone to Dells' website and have the *.ISO that they posted on their support area to install Ubuntu from, however, I am worried that certain Vodafone specific features - namely the mobile internet functionality - will be lost or somehow unusable without Windows.

Can anyone confirm or advise me on this at all? The Windows software to track the usage isnt so important but the ability to use the mobile internet clearly is, and if possible I'd like to retain the feature to send/receive text messages from the notebook.
