Default 2GB RAM Showing in Dell's Ubuntu Remix? - 02-27-2009, 05:53 AM

So I've been reading this forum for a few days and I just today got my Mini 9, which was loaded with Dell's Ubuntu "remix." Promptly after testing on arrival, I pulled out the 512MB RAM chip and installed a 2GB one. Now, from reading this board, I was under the impression I would only be able to use 1GB of memory, since several people here say Dell's Ubuntu remix is configured to recognize only that much.

However, after installing the 2GB chip, Ubuntu is showing "Memory 2.0 GiB" in System Monitor, even though the kernel is lpia. Can anyone explain this? Does this mean I have access to the full 2GB of RAM, or do I still need to install i386 to be able to get full use of it?

The latest kernel (which is what the new machines are shipping with, presumably) doesn't have the 1GB memory limitation. The rest of us had to run a software update to get 2GB support.

Yea, Dell finally decided to start selling them with an optional 2GB of memory so they had to remove that limitation.
