Dear all,
do anyone know DRIVER FOR Dell Mini 9 can't detect or install Dell Wireless 5530
HSPA Mobile Broadband Minicard NetworkAdapter (MODEM BROADBAND) in distro Linux UBuntu?
Any suggest?

I did something stupid. A friend gave me their min 9 to put win 7 on it for her, well I never checked the size of the hard drive and didn't realize it was only a 4 gig ssd. Never even occurred to me to check, I haven't seen a 4 gig drive in any form for like 10 years.

So now I'm trying to put the ubuntu install that came with it back on using a usb stick, I don't have a usb external optical drive.

I used the 8.04 disk that came with it and made an iso out of it. Then created the usb install with unetbootin, that all seems to be fine I think.

Splash screen pops up, hit enter to install, type proceed to reset to factory defaults, then it just sits there on a black screen with a blinking cursor in the upper left.

Until I ran across the post above I didn't know how to get to the terminal but it appears I'm having the same problem he did.

Attempting /dev/scd0
Attempting /dev/scd1
Attempting /dev/scd2
Attempting /dev/scd3
repeating forever.

How can I make it look for the usb stick instead of searching for a cd drive?

Pulling my hair out....

Okay, I found a post elsewhere where someone edited the syslinux.cfg file and got it to work. So I made a backup of the old file and edited it to match.

New syslinux.cfg file text.

That got me a lot further, it's no longer stuck at trying to find a cdrom.
Now it's getting stuck at "will mount root from /dev/sdb"

It just sits there. The light on the usb stick is blinking non stop so I think it's trying to do something.

Now I'm truly stumped, I've got 50+ tabs open and am no closer to finding an answer. Yes, I'm a linux noob. Flame me if that's what it takes, but if anyone can help I'll be grateful.

I can't afford it right now, but I went ahead and bought a usb external dvd drive.

What a pain in the ass.

I hope the USB optical drive works for you. I have one, too. Although I seldom need it, it's very useful at times.

Hello, I have a Dell mini 9 that came with the 8 GB ssd and preinstalled with ubuntu, I had installed windows on it, but now wish to go back to ubuntu but lost my original disk. I can not for the life of me find a good download source. Does anyone know of a good dl source?

I don't want to be unhelpful but, there is no real benefit at this point using the original dell 8.04 remix. The LPIA architecture has basically been abandoned and never really provided a benefit. 10.04 is the current lts release and has a much nicer netbook interface. It is also so much easier to find programs compiled for i386 than for lpia. I remember hacking the skype installer to allow it to run lpia, it was a huge pain.
