However, if you prepare it using the 'persistent file' option, then you will be able to save your settings, including your wireless info. if you prep your flash drive using the Universal USB Installer, you can set this option when you check the box to format the drive. Use the slider to allocate the amount of memory you want to use for that file, just slide all the way to the right and that'll use all available space on the flash drive. find more information about this here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/LiveUsbPendrivePersistent --for reference only, really. the universal installer is the easiest way to actually prepare your flash drive. btw, if you like the Unity desktop in Ubuntu, cool... but if you prefer a more traditional desktop interface, try Linux Mint instead. the standard version uses Gnome desktop, which is most like Windows and Mac desktop environments. I personally didn't care for the button interface in Ubuntu (Unity) cheers. / SL 10.6.6 NBI 0.8.4 Special/ Linux Mint |Please use my Dropbox Invite link: http://db.tt/4z2wwup | |

I have Ubuntu 9.10, 10.04 and 10.10 all installed to USB flash drives. They all have no problems saving data and settings to the flash drive where the Linux Distro also resides. Its also no problems to download additional programs to the flash drive. Just Goggle Linux Live and it will take you to their web site where you can download the program and directions. Its pretty straight forward and I find it works better than Universal USB installer which I have used a great deal in the past. Give it a shot. I think you won't be disappointed. Fdalbor http://www.linuxliveusb.com here is the link if you want to try it. You need to use at least a 4gig USB drive (8 is better, but 4 is fine) and don't set the save area for the all of the remaining free space; most of it; but not all. Good luck; works like a charm for me. Dell Mini 1010 XP--10.04/Mandriva One/Joli 1.2![]() Compaq R4000 laptop AMD 64 Compaq SR2034NX AMD 64 |

I found along time ago sooner or later you are going to have your duel boot system crash as it tries to boot from grub. After losing XP two or three times using duel boot I decided to stick to running Linux from SD/HC cards or USB flash. And keeping XP safe. Remember the reason I stick to XP (and not Win7) is XP has drivers that lets you display 1024X768 on my old 1024X567 screen. 1024X768 is the most popular resolution for most programs. I originally used the 10 not 10v fix to get the drivers to display correctly on the 1010. But Ubuntu has shortened and cleaned up the script needed to get the GMA drivers from the ubuntu repository. I don't worry about upgrading the kernel as the next version I try has the upgraded kernel. Or if 9.10 works better I stick with it. I have 9.10; 10.04 and 10.10 all installed to USB flash drives. Go to the Ubuntu Wiki and you can get all the information to run 9.10 thru 10.10 in one short page. This is the current script sudo add-apt-repository ppa:gma500/ppa && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install poulsbo-driver-3d The script changes from time to time as they update it. But it always seems to get shorter hahahah; fdalbor Dell Mini 1010 XP--10.04/Mandriva One/Joli 1.2![]() Compaq R4000 laptop AMD 64 Compaq SR2034NX AMD 64 |
