Default HOWTO: openafs client on lpia architecture - 01-16-2009, 12:12 AM

there are probably a few openafs users out there but here I describe how to install the openafs-client on the mini.
The package is not in the repo since it doesn't compile on lpia. We therefore need the latest greatest version from debian.

1) Make a directory "openafs" and download the packages to it from:
mkdir openafs
cd openafs
# get the source from debian (you need > 1.4.7 to compile on lpia)
wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/ma...fsg1-6.diff.gz
wget http://ftp.debian.org/debian/pool/ma...g1.orig.tar.gz
2) Unpack and patch
$ tar xzvf openafs_1.4.7.dfsg1.orig.tar.gz
(if needed
$ mv openafs_1.4.7.dfsg1.orig openafs-1.4.7.dfsg1.orig
$ zcat openafs_1.4.7.dfsg1-6.diff.gz | patch -p0
3) Install necessary dependencies
$ sudo apt-get build-dep openafs-client
$ sudo apt-get install build-essential fakeroot
4) Build the Debian packages (takes a long time)
$ cd openafs-1.4.7.dfsg1.orig
$ chmod u+x debian/rules
$ dpkg-buildpackage -rfakeroot
Compilation may fail if you don't have all dependencies installed. Just install the missing packages and rebuild.

5) Install the packages
$ sudo dpkg -i ../openafs-modules-source_1.4.7.dfsg1-6_all.deb  openafs-client_1.4.7.dfsg1-6_lpia.deb
6) Build the kernel module
$ sudo apt-get install module-assistant
$ sudo module-assistant prepare openafs-modules
$ sudo module-assistant auto-build openafs-modules
7) Install the packages
$ sudo dpkg -i /usr/src/openafs-modules-2.6.24-19-lpia_1.4.7.dfsg1-6+2.6.24-19.41netbook11_lpia.deb
Hope this helps at least someone.
