No Video on Mini 1010 (Ubuntu Version 10.10, maverick) - 12-27-2010, 12:33 AM
Hi. So today I installed Ubuntu on my dell mini 1010. I installed a bunch of stuff, medibuntu, some wifi stuff, all that. My problem is though is that I can't seem to get any offline video. I've tried drivers here: https://wiki.ubuntu.com/HardwareSupp...oCardsPoulsbo/
but I can't seem to get video. I get sound just fine, but not video. I think it has to do with the graphics card, but I'm not sure.
So, do any of you have any solutions or different drivers for the gma500 card? Thanks!

That said you can get pretty good video by using 9.04 and 9.10; and not have to jump through hoops to get it. I have 9.04 installed to a SD/HD drive and it plays video almost as good as XP. 9.10 is the best by far however so while it might seem a little backward using a eariler version it does work a good bit better.
I keep hearing Ubuntu is going to get it fixed in the next version; but I doubt it will ever happen. They don't make 1010's any more so why would they bother. I don't think you will ever see another (NEW) netbook with a GMa 500 chip set.
Don't get me wrong. I am happy with my 1010 and plan on using it for quite some time. What it does it does well. And the newer netbooks are hardly any better or faster. But when I need video I use 9.04 or XP. They work; nuff said. Fdalbor
