I've Screwed up the System, Help me Fix It! - 01-10-2009, 10:37 AM
Ok, so I'm not sure exactly what I've done, but I seem to have changed my system and I want it back to the way it was before.
Here is what I did:
1) Installed some updates, including Firefox 3.0.5, which deleted all my bookmarks/extensions/themes
2) I then tried to change the Firefox icons as described here:
4) In an attempt to fix Firefox, I followed these instructions:
I found a partial backup of my Firefox bookmarks and such, at the moment I just want to fix Firefox and make sure I haven't installed another distro by accident.

To get your Firefox profile back:
The adding and removing of your sources.list should have done no real harm.
You have changed the "web browser" icon with step 2 - it hasn't changed firefox as such at all.
If you want to reinstall "web browser" from the Dell repo rather than the Netbook Remix (after correcting the sources.list):
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install --reinstall firefox
I have realised that the command "apt-get upgrade firefox" will actually update every package in the repo. So, you have in fact installed all the latest packages from the Netbook Remix repo. This should be OK, since it is essentially the Canonical original repo from which Dell selects its updates from. Undoing that process is not straightforward, and I think you are best leaving it as is. Dell will likely include those packages in due course anyway. Nevertheless, once you have removed the offending repository from sources.list:
sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get upgrade
