Default my mini 9 is very slow and i would like your input - 01-06-2009, 05:46 AM

using the web browser that comes with the mini, i have found that pages load painfully slow. i use a wireless router and my other laptop, an older low to midline machine, is much faster.

my machine has the 4 gig memory and is primarily for web surfing, email and occasionally very small spreadsheet applications.

i know dell typically packs a lot of unnecessary software on its machines. i would like to remove as much of this as possible and retain a browser, email, open office and wireless capability. what other software can i safely remove and what is the procedure for doing so?

and, do you know of any other ways to speed up the mini?

one last thing, i have been reading about installing a clean newer version of ubuntu. this appears beyond of my technical skill set, but am willing to give it a try, as well.

Once I installed Ubuntu 8.10, things seemed to run better for me. However, Firefox 3.0.5 still acts sluggish. Web pages load okay, but the Firefox menus and overall interaction is slower than the Ubuntu OS itself.
