Default How to disable tap-to-click on Xubuntu/xfce? - 05-02-2010, 02:58 PM

Got Ubuntu NBE 10.04 installed on my new Mini 1012. Gnome is neat but slow compared to xfce, so I installed xfce.

Now the mouse driver doesn't know how to turn off tap-to-click, at least in the GUI.

This is a problem on the small keyboard plus touchpad because errant palm touches to the touchpad causes my mouse to click when I'm in middle of typing.

Any ideas? I've already tried adding a synaptics MaxTapTime of 0 in a new /etc/xorg.conf file, but that seems to have done nothing.

Thanks!

Temporary fix I discovered.

From the command line:

ubuntu:~$ synclient MaxTapTime=0

that does it. Gotta redo it every time I reboot or log out, but it's a fine temporary fix.

You can probably stick that command somewhere to automatically run. Maybe a shell script in "/etc/X11/Xsession.d" ?

Does this work?

Go to Settings>Session and Startup>Advanced and check 'Launch Gnome services on startup'

If not, I think this will:
Go to Settings>Session and Startup>Application Autostart>Add

In the command box, type 'synclient MaxTapTime=0'

HAL and xorg.conf are deprecated, so I'm really not sure what the proper way to configure these touchpads is anymore.
