I ran the sudo lsusb command and got the following results:
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 0bda:0158 Realtek Semiconductor Corp. Mass Stroage Device
Bus 001 Device 002: ID 174f:1403 Syntek
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 003 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 004 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 005 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
Is the Realtek the SSD? And the Syntek perhaps the wifi? i don't know. No Bluetooth there. What is Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub, and 1.1 hub?
Thanks for your help. I'm concluding that there is no bluetooth installed. Its enabled in the BIOS as I checked. And I guess maybe that's why the Bluetooth symbol is present in the top panel. And that it's greyed out because its not actually installed.
I've managed to locate some online info:
Ubuntu, the absolute beginners guide Linux Owns
and the Ubuntu PocketGuide v1.1.pdf which was written following the 8.04 release but I guess there will still be a lot in there that is still important up to 9.10
