Default Bluetooth issues - 12-08-2008, 11:58 AM

I am not able to connect to my phone via bluetooth. Doesn't seem to matter if I try to initiate the connection from my phone (an AT&T 8525 Windows Mobile 6 PDA/phone) or from the Mini.

I'm running the stock Dell Ubuntu install.
Bluetooth is enabled in the BIOS.
Airplane manager shows that Bluetooth is on.
apt-get reports that both bluez-util and gnome-bluetooth are already installed and the most current version.

The Bluetooth icon is visible in the system area, however under Preferences I only have two tabs visible: Services and General. Nowhere on these two tabs does it have any options for visibility, make this device discoverable, etc...

The Browse phone devices option is greyed out.

Going to Connect New Devices only gives me the options for Mouse, Keyboard and headset.

In terminal,
lsusb reports
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 064e:a118 Suyin Corp.

hcitool dev reports
Devices:
(nothing listed)

Can any Linux gurus help? I can't even figure out for sure if my Bluetooth adapter is configured correctly or at all.

Thanks!

I'm having exactly the same issue as above. I've read through a bunch of posts and haven't found anything that makes a difference. If anyone has any ideas it would be much appreciated.

Default Bluetooth/ pooptooth - 05-13-2009, 08:51 PM

You know, in general I'm just getting fed up with bluetooth devices. I spend way too much of my time trying to get bluetooth stuff work. This goes for every version of windows and linux I've used.

Default default bluetooth software - try blueman - 05-14-2009, 07:55 PM

I managed to get Bluetooth Dial-up networking working by ditching the default bluetooth manager and installing BlueMan, and then installing Gnome-PPP to manage my dial-up networking settings

Blueman Project - News

installation instructions (not part of the official repository)

Slightly outdated instructions, configuration directions:

Didn't work until I realized I had to run Gnome-PPP with the gksudo command for my bluetooth modem to show up.
