Many thanks, I'll go ahead and create the Persistent mode thumb drive.
See a site where it looks rather straight forward, so I don't see the need to pay for one already created.

I've been using a wubi 8.04 install for several months on my desktop machine with no fatal problems. That includes several hard reboots with no ill effects.
I suppose the downside of a wubi install is that if you need to reinstall windows, you lose ubuntu. That brings me to your question about how a wubi install opens.
A boot loader program opens first and allows you to choose from a menu of installed operating systems.
I'm still looking for a way to install ubuntu 8.10 to a ext2 partition with no swap file and dual boot with windows xp on the mini9.
