Default HOWTO fix Ubuntu 8.10 logon font - 11-25-2008, 01:37 PM

After installing Ubuntu 8.10, I noticed that the username and password logon font was too big. This quick fix will adjust the font size to fit in the text boxes.

In terminal type:

sudo gedit /etc/gdm/gdm.conf
Look for the section that looks something like this:

name=Standard server
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -audit 0
Now add -dpi 96 at the end of the last line. It should now look like this:

name=Standard server
command=/usr/X11R6/bin/X -br -audit 0 -dpi 96
Reboot and your logon font should fix correctly when typing your username and password.

Thanks for you help - your suggestion did improve the login text. It did not affext any dialog windows - they are still over sized for my mini 9's display.
