I found this link on Overclockers.com & it installed on my Mini 9 without taking up amy more space too. How to Easily Upgrade your Firefox to 3.5 (and future version) in Ubuntu - Make Tech Easier
The instructions say to run ubntuzilla.py, I had to add -b at the end as I only have the 4 gb ssd & no space for a backup. It seems to work fine & will update as Firefox releases future updates.

If you're running Ubuntu 9.04, it should be as simple as "sudo apt-get install firefox-3.5".

In an ideal world it would be as easy as

and Canonical would already have backported the Firefox base to 3.5. I am still wondering why they haven't?

If I dist-upgrade from 9.04 to 9.10 with firefox-3.5 installed, will 9.10 automagically update the package to the standard Firefox in the 9.10 repos? Or will it be ignored as a legacy package?

Edit: I ask because I just replaced an uber-hacked ultra upgraded version of 7.04/7.10/8.04/8.10 with a clean install of 9.04 on a brand new hdd. My previous install was a mess of my own making with trying to hack nvidia drivers, smart card readers, kernel optimizations, and a whole slew of make make installs of stuff that's now in the repos. It runs like new and I am going to experiment with sticking to the repos themselves this time around.

A simpler way to upgrade mozilla is to download and install ubuntuzilla. That will bring Firefox up to 3.5.2.

You can install firefox 3.5 from the repositories. It shows up as Shiretoko, and Firefox 3.0 is still available. I think there is a way of putting the firefox branding back on, but personally I don't bother.

Yup, you can install 3.5 from the repositories.

New software versions go through a verification process making sure everything is compatible, fixing any security problems, etc. However, you can still install it. It does show up as Shiretoko (the projects codename before released).
