Default Dual boot with an 8GB SSD? - 07-23-2009, 04:56 PM

I originally ran Ubuntu 8 on my Mini 9. Then I switched to XP because there are a couple of Windows-only programs I needed that didn't run well in WINE. Ideally, I'd like to dual boot XP and the new Ubuntu 9.

So my question is: Have any of you dual booted XP and Ubuntu 9 -- and here's the important catch -- with only the standard Dell 8GB SSD?

Right now, with Windows installed, I have 2.42GB free. I can probably nix a few programs and get to about 3.5GB free. I also use an 8GB SD card for storage, so I don't need storage space on the hard drive.

Would anyone warn against me slapping in Ubuntu and dual booting with a 8GB SSD?

Even if you find enough free space, I don't know if you'll be able to shrink the Windows partition enough to make room for Ubuntu.

For reference, my Mini 9, with Ubuntu 9.04 and the "4GB" SSD, has 2.0GiB used out of 3.5GiB total. I'd probably try to get at least a 3GiB partition available for Ubuntu (and NO swap).
