No improvement at all, sadly:
This is fairly typical:

and then it just hangs.

aaamr, can you please post a short summary of your experiences on a bug entry that I've started for wireless problems in the Ubuntu bug system here.
Given the importance of wireless to a netbook, hopefully they'll have a fix shortly for this.

Not connecting to open access point - 11-27-2008, 06:50 AM
I just got my Mini-9 so haven't had much time to teach it new tricks but I did notice that it doesn't want to hook up to a plain vanilla wide open wireless access point that several other appliances here have no trouble joining, so we really don't want to mess with tweaking anything on the AP & mess up the connectivity of all the other wireless devices.
I strongly suspect that the encryption "features"/ settings on the Mini are at fault.
(Kinda sad that it won't work straight out of the box, but it is pretty new after all)
Just checking; is there a brain-dead simple way to get it to connect to an un-encrypted wireless AP?
It's running XP home, 16GB SSD, 1GB ram & has a 16GB SDHC & will eventually wind up with a dual boot.
